Welcome to our fabric store, where we aim to inspire creativity and encourage self-expression through sewing! We are a family business that has been running for almost 10 years now, and we are so grateful for the opportunity to share our passion for sewing with our customers.
Let us introduce ourselves! My name is Linda, and I am the creative mind behind our brand. I love all things creative, from sewing to drawing and every messy way to create anything in between. I am constantly inspired by the world around me, whether it’s the colours of a sunset, the patterns on a butterfly’s wings, or the playful imagination of a child. It brings me so much joy to be able to share that inspiration with our customers and to see the amazing things that they create with our fabrics. I design and run everything to do with the website from the fun illustrations to the product descriptions and all the IT support in between. I also do all the photography, the social media accounts, the sewing tutorials and I have even designed some of our fabric patterns.
My husband Chris is my partner in life and business. He is the practical heart of our brand. He looks after all of our wonderful customers. He is always on hand to answer any questions you may have and is here to support you every step of the way.
It is Chris who you will usually find taking care of everything from packaging your orders to helping with most of the customer service inquiries. He has always been passionate about helping others, and he loves nothing more than seeing our customers feel confident and empowered in their sewing journey.
We started our brand when our first child was just a baby, and we’ve been working around our two young children ever since. It’s been a wild ride, with babies sleeping in slings and toddlers running around the sewing studio, but we wouldn’t have had it any other way. Our daughter has always been inspired by the fabrics we carry, and she loves to sew with me whenever she can. Our son is a budding artist, and he loves to draw with me as we work on new fabric designs together. I am very proud that they have been able to spend time in such a wonderful environment that has encouraged them to express their unique characters in the ways that they want to create.
At our fabric store, we believe that everyone has a unique creative voice, and we want to help you find your best way to express that too. We often joke that Chris tries to sell my fabric faster than I can sew with it. This is because we carefully select each fabric in our collection to reflect our love of all things beautiful, joyous and unique. So rather than a regular fabric shop which has a little of everything, in every style going, this shop is more like an extension of my fabric stash. A peek into my sewing world – one that I love to share with others. Our hope is that every time you use our fabrics, you feel that sense of joy and playfulness too, and that they bring a little bit of magic into your life as well.
Our Business Name
Have you ever wondered why we’re called Sewing Bee Fabrics? Well, the answer lies in the tradition of sewing bee groups, where people would come together to sew, chat, and share their skills. We wanted to capture that sense of community and encouraging others with our brand name.
But as much as we love sewing, bees are also important to us. We actually keep our own bees at the bottom of our garden! We believe that bees are a vital part of our ecosystem, and we are passionate about doing our part to support them.
Just like bees working together to create something sweet and delicious, we believe that sewing is more fun when you come together with a similar goal of creating something wonderful. We believe that the act of sewing brings people together, even online, and helps to create a sense of community. Over the years we have loved watching that community grow and seeing not only the amazing skills that some of you have but also the kindness and desire to share those skills that so many of you wonderful people have too.
We hope that our fabrics inspire you to create something beautiful, just like the bees in our garden inspire us every day. And we also hope that when you shop with us, you’re not just buying fabrics. We believe that creativity and sustainability go hand in hand. That’s why we’re committed to reducing our environmental impact wherever possible. For everything from parcel packaging to product packaging, we try our best to use recyclable paper-based alternatives as far as possible. We’ve won an award for it and even encouraged a few manufacturers to cut down on their plastic use too!
We believe that small changes can make a big difference, and we’re proud to say that we estimate we’ve saved over 7.5k pieces of plastic from going to landfill in our first year alone of making the change. Now several years on, and we’re constantly reviewing our processes to see how we can maintain the same quality while reducing our environmental impact even further.
