Make Your Own Baby Changing Mat

Our baby changing mat was falling apart and looking pretty nasty so it was time for a quick and easy upgrade!
What you will need:
2 x rectangles PVC tablecloth / oilcloth - I used 48cm x 70cm
2 U shaped/ semi circle pieces. I used a 7cm x 7cm square and curved off the edges.
1 piece of wadding. I used 46cm x 90cm
How to make it:
First, roll the top 20cm of the wadding and hand stitch in place.
Take your U shape PVC and start sewing it right side together at each side on 1 end of 1 of your PVC rectangles. Curve the underneath piece as you go by frequently stopping with the needle down but presser foot lifted up and rearranging. This is actually easier to do without pinning. I prefer to sew PVC tablecloth with a roller sewing machine foot as it rolls the presser foot over the surface preventing it from getting stuck. I also use a very wide stitch width otherwise the perforations made in the PVC can cause it to rip (think of it like thick perforated paper).
Place your 2 rectangles right sides together and pin the top and sides. Be careful to only pin in the seam allowances as the more holes you make, the less waterproof it will be.
Sew along the top and 2 sides leaving the bottom free by a couple of centimetres.
Pop your wadding inside then tuck the raw edges underneath and pin in place.

Then start chasing your little one for nappy change time!

Love this idea you could even just keep a small roll of it in your baby bag as a portable changing bag. Great tutorial 🙂
How have i not thought of that!! I keep looking at my travel one thinking I must make a new one… I’m cutting some off and doing that!
