Fancy a free Christmas embroidery machine project? How about having a go at making this in-the-hoop bauble? This free download contains a zip file of all the main sewing machine file types. Simply uncompress it, pick the one that is compatible with your embroidery machine and you’re good to go! This bauble has been made to suit a hoop size of approximately 10cm x 10cm (4 x 4 inches) and has an approximate sewing time of about 15 minutes.
What you’ll need:
- Tear-away stabiliser
- Machine Embroidery Threads – I used Blue 405 & Silver 005 in our range of Brother-compatible colours
- 2 x pieces of felt approx. 10 x 10cm (4×4 inches)
- Narrow ribbon approx 16cm (6 inches)
- Masking tape
This embroidery pattern is available for free with no sign-ups required. Download the free in-the-hoop bauble pattern here – it comes as a zip file. Simply right-click on the file and choose to uncompress/extract the file. Inside you’ll find the following file types for the most common embroidery machines. This pattern is suitable for a 10cm x 10cm (4×4 inch) hoop:

Just select the one that suits your embroidery machine and you’re ready to go.
First, hoop the stabiliser only. The first colour will stitch your felt placement. I started with the blue thread 405.
Place your light blue felt down on top of the stitched out bauble shape. Masking tape is useful to hold it in place.
The next stitch simply repeats the shape to hold the felt down in place then embroiders the snowflakes.
Next, switch to thread 005 Silver and this will embroider the stars.
Before sewing the next stage, turn your hoop over, and tape in place the ribbon folded. It should comfortably be inside the bauble with the loop above the top of the bauble. Tape the ribbon to hold it in position
Then tape your second piece of felt under the hoop so it covers the entire bauble shape.
With the blue thread 405 again, the final stitching will attach the backing felt and finish the edges. Simply trim around it after close to your stitches and it’s done and ready to hang on the tree!
