A hole in a t-shirt doesn’t need to be a disaster. This is a super fun way to turn something unwearable into a fun explosion of a repair job! This upcycle is really quick and easy and makes for a great beginner refashioning project. Let me show you how I did mine!

I trimmed the hole to give it a more fun shape, then added another piece of jersey and a sheet of tear-away stabiliser behind it. I stitched all the way around the edge of the hole using a knit foot with a straight stitch on the sewing machine. You may want to use a stretch stitch instead if your t-shirt is more stretchy or the hole will be pulled around more than this one.
I gently removed the tear-away stabiliser, being careful not to pull at the stitches.
Then trimmed off the excess jersey. T-shirt jersey doesn’t fray so it doesn’t need any special finish.
Then it’s done already! I turned my hole into 3 progressively bigger holes and popped a fun embroidery in the centre of the main hole. You could easily use a favourite grown-out-of t-shirt to add a fun pattern in the middle if you wanted to make something similar without embroidering.
