Make Your Own Hand Warming Scarf With Pockets

Scarves are brilliant and snuggly for cold days but gloves can be a pain if your doing something that means you need to take them on and off. So why not sew hand warming pockets in to your scarf?! These also make excellent easy Christmas presents too.
What you will need:
Cuddle fleece 180cm x 50cm
How to make it:
First, cut your cuddle fleece into 3. Cut the last 20cm off then divide in half so you have
Fold the large piece in half with right sides together along its longest side. Stitch closed along that length leaving the 2 short ends open. No matter how much I try, I nearly always seem to miss catching a bit in amongst the fluff, so I prefer to sew my seam then sew an over edge (overlocking) stitch after to reinforce it.
Turn your tube right way out.
Curl the tops of your pocket pieces under to make a hem and sew in place.
Pin the pockets right side together against the scarf (on the wrong side of the scarf if your pattern has an obvious back and front).
Sew down both sides and the bottom the same way you did for the long side. I did however find this was easier done with a roller foot on my sewing machine to make it easier for it to pass over the layers and fluff.
Repeat on the other end then turn the pocket so it sits correct way out on the other side of the scarf.
Then wear with pride and warm fingers!

Happy Sewing!
This is something that I can make for our residents at the nursing home that I work at.
We do a sewing group.
Always looking for something to do with the residents. If you have anything else that I can do with the residents please share.
I’m so pleased. I hope you had fun making them. There are lots of other projects on our free tutorial page.

This is such a quick and easy tutorial! The scarf looks super warm and snuggly, perfect for the upcoming winter! I’m not a huge fan of gloves as I hate taking them on and off when I need to use my hands, so this would probably be perfect for me!
Thank you 😀
